New genetically modified canola oil headed for US
Watching what's happening in the world of genetic manipulation is something I do regularly. It keeps me informed on many levels. Earlier this morning I read an article about a new type of gmo canola from a company called Nuseed. It's canola that has been genetically modified by the addition of an algae gene to produce the omega 3 DHA. The plan then is to feed it to people, or the things people eat.
Application for approval has just been made to regulatory authorities in Australia, Canada and the US. It should take some time to work it's way through those agencies, but it is definitely on the horizon....so keep an eye out. And add this to the genetically modified soybean oil omega-3's from Monsanto, DuPont and BASF. They are in the final stages of approval and likely hit us even sooner.
