Flavonoids: High dietary intake fights obesity and inflammation
In the May 2017 issue of the journal Nutrition & Diabetes (link provided below) a small but important study appeared in the "Short Communications" section. That study showed evidence that the amount of daily flavonoid intake was inversely associated with the risk of obesity as well as the inflammatory burden associated with obesity. That means when flavonoid intake is high the risk of obesity is lower and the inflammatory burden that obesity puts on the body is also reduced. Not a an entirely new discovery, but an important affirmation of the power of flavonoid rich foods.
Here are two important take-a-ways from that work;
- A diet rich in flavonoid containing foods is shown to protect against obesity. Part of the reason no doubt is that high flavonoid intake means high fruit and vegetable intake as those are the foods we get flavonoids from. But it also adds evidence to the benefits of insuring a high daily flavonoid intake from all sources.
- Flavonoids are anti-inflammatory nutrients; something the NeoLife Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) has known about for years. As this study reaffirms, high flavonoid intake is associated with lower inflammatory burden. In this case it's the inflammation associated with obesity, but it is safe to say that those same anti-inflammatory benefits apply to all of us; overweight, obese, under weight or otherwise. Everyone can benefits from a daily diet high in whole food flavonoid content.
So, having a plan to assure dietary abundance whole food flavonoids each day would make sense, right? Right! That is not just prudent, but simply smart.
The NeoLife Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) was one of the very first science groups to not only recognize the presence of this powerful family of health-protecting bioactive phytonutrients known as flavonoids, but also to identify, stabilize, concentrate and deliver them in supplement form...along with evidence of their protective actions. That was in the early 1990's. Since that time investigating and delivering standardized whole food sourced supplements that provide a broad range of flavonoids, and their "parent family" polyphenols, has resulted in such leading edge products as Flavonoid Complex and Tre. Powerful whole food sourced nutrition only available from Nature and NeoLife.
